Pasco Coastal Improvement Council (CIC)
Together we can make a difference!
The Coastal Improvement Council's comprehensive nine-zone, six-phase plan represents a bold leap forward in improving and sustaining vibrant ecosystems that will sustain future generations. This endeavor epitomizes practical wisdom—common sense—grounded on a straightforward strategy: Facilitate Mother Nature by naturally restoring her water flows throughout our county and coastlines.
Emerging from the prestigious 2024 Pasco County Citizens Academy, this private, not-for-profit (501c3) council is uniquely equipped to address the complex challenges facing our coastal regions, which have far-reaching impacts countywide.
The Pasco Coastal Improvement Council (PCIC) stands as a beacon of innovative and visionary thinking, embodying the power of evidence-based research accumulated over 17 years. Our approach is deeply rooted in community involvement, ensuring we tackle issues comprehensively—from upstream to downstream—using informed and sustainable strategies. Embarking on this transformative initiative, the Coastal Improvement Council is set to restore and improve Pasco's natural water flows with a significant focus on the longshore drift, which has been unintentionally disrupted over the past 60 years. Spanning an impressive 24 miles and 3 miles in width, this ambitious plan aims to revitalize and improve up to 50,000 acres of critical ecosystems, including channels, rivers, bayous, creeks, swamps, and wetlands.
This initiative promises ecosystem improvements and strengthens flood mitigation efforts in human communities across Pasco County. Moreover, it is an economic catalyst by supporting local livelihoods while safeguarding life and property against environmental threats.
